You’re getting an extra post today in honor of the workers’ holiday. I’m a firm believer in doing good and purposeful work—contributing your skills and talents to the world the best way you know how. And I’m also a big believer in work/life balance—having a full, round life that allows you to enjoy your friends, family, creative interests, community, whatever else is meaningful to you. So I hope you’ve had some time to do that today, because that’s what I think Labor Day is all about. Appreciating the work you do (paid or unpaid—don’t forget the work of the stay-at-home caretaker today), the work others’ do, and celebrating the ability to take time away from work to relax, recharge, and enjoy.
I also have to say: isn’t this a wonderful picture? Big thanks to the Library of Congress’s Flickr page for the access to this amazing color photo from 1943. It’s a stunner.
